1. A stone’s throw 超级近

释义：very near

例句：The hotel was a stone’s throw from the beach, I loved it

酒店离海滩超级近，我喜欢

2. Hear on the grapevine 道听途说

释义：to hear a rumour or unconfirmed story

例句：I heard on the grapevine that Charlie and Sarah are dating at the moment.

我听人家讲，Charlie 和Sarah 现在在约会呢。

3. Sit on the fence 保持中立，骑墙

释义：to stay neutral and not take sides

例句：-Well don’t you think I’m right, he ‘s been acting differently ,hasn’t he?

-I’m sitting on the fence with this one, you’re both my good friends.

-喂，你不觉得我才是对的吗？是他变卦了，不是吗？

-对于这件事我保持中立，你们两个都是我的朋友。

4. Take what someone says with a pinch of salt 持保留意见

释义：regard something as exaggerated, or only believe a part of something.

例句：-Did you hear what Tina said happened in the office yesterday?

-Oh, I would take anything she says with a pinch of salt.

-你听到昨天Tina在办公室说的话了吗？

-哦，我对她的话持保留意见。

5. Be a catch 做一个值得爱的人

释义：be someone worth marrying/having

例句：John is taking me out tonight. He’s such a catch, I hope he’ll propose.

John今晚约了我，他真的是一个很值得爱的人，我希望他会向我求婚。

6. Hit the nail on the head 直击痛点，直中要害

释义：used if something someone says, is precisely correct.

例句：My doctor hit the nail on the head. He knew exactly what was wrong with me ！

我的医生直中要害，他一眼就看出我怎么了。

7. Costs an arm and a leg. 奇贵无比

释义：when something is very expensive

例句：My son wants that mountain bike for his birthday, but it’ll cost an arm and a leg.

我儿子今年生日想要那台山地车，但它真的是奇贵无比啊!

8. Hit the books 用功读书

释义：to study very hard

例句：-Do you want to go for lunch somewhere nice?

-No thanks, I’m going to hit the books, I have an exam coming up soon.

-你想不想去好一点的餐厅吃午餐？

-不用了，谢谢。我要用功读书，最近要考试了。

9. Bite off more than you can chew 力不从心

释义：to take on something that is too much for you to handle

例句：He recently got promoted and took on some new responsibilities, but he’s just too busy. He bit off more than he could chew, and I don’t think he can handle it anymore. 他最近升职了，责任也更重了，但他简直太忙了，我感觉他有点力不从心，应付不来。

10. When pigs fly 不可能

释义：this means that something will never happen

例句：-Aren’t you going to buy that dream house you told me about?

-Ugh, I will when pigs fly, it is just so expensive, I don’t think it’ll happen

-你曾经和我说过那个梦想的房子，难道你不打算买了吗？

-哦，这不太可能，太贵了，我感觉我买不起。

11. Don’t judge a book by its cover 不要以貌取人

释义：This means don’t make a decision based on a brief impression of outward appearance

例句：-I don’t like our new neighbors very much, they are quite strange.

-Hey, you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover. Give them a chance, I think they’re just a bit quirky but really nice

-我不太喜欢我们的新邻居，他们看上去有点古怪。

-喂，不要这么以貌取人好不好。给他们个机会，我觉得他们就是有点古怪，人还是蛮好的。
